New Patients

New to acupuncture? We’ll make your first appointment easy and comfortable—starting with listening and a plan built around your goals.

From booking to your first treatment, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

Getting started with acupuncture is simple—and we’ll guide you the whole way. Your first visit begins with a thorough consultation where we review your health history, current concerns, and goals. From there, we create a personalized treatment plan and walk you through exactly what to expect during your session. Whether you’re coming in for pain relief, stress support, better sleep, or overall wellness, our goal is to help you feel comfortable, informed, and confident from day one.

What to expect at your visit

Every visit starts with a detailed intake so we can understand the underlying patterns behind your symptoms—not just the surface complaint. From there, you’ll receive a customized acupuncture treatment (and recommendations such as herbs or self-care when appropriate), along with a clear plan for timing and follow-up so you know what to expect between visits. We use a secure online Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, so new patients can access and complete intake forms when booking online. If you prefer to complete paperwork in the office, you’re welcome to do so—just please arrive 15–20 minutes early to allow enough time before your appointment.

Intake & Assessment

We review your symptoms, health history, lifestyle factors, and goals. For pain and injury concerns, we may also assess range of motion, movement patterns, and tender areas.

Plan & Next Steps

We discuss what we found, what to expect, and a simple plan based on your goals and how your body responds.

Treatment

Sterile needles are placed and you rest comfortably. Many people feel calm and deeply relaxed during the session.

FAQs

The consultation is a 20-30 minute one-on-one meeting to go over your paperwork, answer questions, discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for acupuncture, and give you treatment plan options.

Yes. If we have decided that you are a good candidate for acupuncture, Glacier Blue Acupuncture has multiple treatment rooms, so we can add you to the schedule and get your started right way.

Loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.  Depending on what you are coming in for, it will determine which points will be used; back pain will have some points on the back, hip pain will have points on the hip, etc.  For most acupuncture treatments, points are located below the knee and around the wrist.  If you wear shorts or yoga pants that can be pulled up comfortably, it will be fine.

Ladies with mid-back pain should not wear a super tight sports bra as it may be difficult to move.

We do have gowns and ‘loaner clothing’ if you are wearing something that may not be the best for treatment.

Each session lasts approximately 1 hour.  To achieve optimum health, we believe in treating both sides of the body. Traditional acupuncture focuses on harmonizing the body’s opposing forces, and stimulating both sides ensures that the flow of Qi (energy) is evenly distributed. If you have pain on one side, you often compensate by overusing the other, leading to imbalances. Treating both sides corrects these patterns.

No. We are medical professionals and do not expect tips.
